The Power of Words

Words—they can shame or liberate. They can encourage or destroy. They can inspire fear and hatred or love and community. In their origin is the power of life and death. They express, explain, teach, take root in the soul, and steer our mindsets and choices. Words have also been watered down, misused, taken out of context, and misunderstood. All too often, we use words without appreciating their full weight and impact, and other times, we give words more power than they were ever intended to have. What words drive you? What words come to mind when you look in the mirror? What words do you sprinkle over others without consideration for where they will land?

The words we write on our hearts have a tremendous impact on the stories we tell ourselves and those we share with others.

Over the next several posts, we will take a look at some of the words that have changed my life and perspective on the world: words that have defined my actions and shaped my soul.
